▼Our mission

We want to build a profound business base that creates value for employees, partners, suppliers, our customers through the interconnectivity between all components of the business cycle. We also want to prove for the sake of an industry change that it is possible to build high-quality products, a brand and a company based on social values with the overall mission to jointly working on a better future.

▼Our story

It all started at the Atlantic ocean. Lisbon, to be precise. The city where WONDA was born. The city and Portugal, in general, delivered some important pieces to the puzzle that defines WONDA the way it is right now.

The Atlantic is a wild and rough ocean. Perfect for surfers and other admirers of the sea. But also a revelator of an ugly truth. Winds and waves bring tons of lost fishing nets and dumped plastic bottles to the beautiful beaches on the Portuguese coast. Surely, the plastic problem is nothing completely new. But seeing its dimensions with your own eyes and especially when you start digging deeper into the topic… There is no way back!

Luckily the ocean and the joyful activities that it offers brought another thought to our founder’s mind: How can it be so difficult to find high-quality swimwear that actually fits, makes you feel comfortable, lasts longer than a season and on top of that doesn’t threaten our planet by throwing another plastic product on the market?

Sustainable fashion brand and its connection to the ocean

► Do you believe in destiny?

We found an amazingly comfortable and functional fabric from italy that was made from recycled ocean and landfill plastic waste. After several endless discussions about the horrible working conditions in fashion factories around the world and the true cost of a fashion product that others pay but the brand itself, we knew exactly what we want to do. This wasn’t something that WONDA wanted to be part of. And then we met the owner of a small swimwear manufactory in Lisbon. On a night out, in a bar. After a not-quite insignificant amount of cocktails. And he was part of a small group of fair fashion advocates from Portugal. Come on. This could have not just been a coincidence.

Ever since we learnt so much from each other and are still such a great team that in fact, the biggest learning from our journey was that true values and honest relationships are the best base for doing balanced and mindful business. Constantly receiving confirmation on this by a community of loyal customers (who we call friends as we share the same goals), WONDA’s mission was set.

Sustainable fashion brand and its connection to the ocean

► Do you believe in destiny?

To keep it short: Our founder’s favourite bikini brand from Australia was made from recycled ocean and landfill plastic – as if they had known. And lucky us, the fabric was made in Italy. After having some sleepness nights dreaming about the horrible working conditions in fashion factories around the world and the true cost of a fashion product that others pay but the brand itself, it was decided. This wasn’t something that WONDA wanted to be part of. And then we met the owner of a small bikini manufactory in Lisbon. In a bar. After a not-quite insignificant amount of cocktails. ▼Our team

We are currently 3 people at the WONDA office in Hamburg. Which doesn’t mean that we are a small team. We are blessed with so many people around us who we love to work with. Our partners, suppliers, neighbours, friends, family and even former strangers who just unconditionally support us because they believe in our mission! Photographers, our beautiful models and even customers and Instagram followers are now part of our mission and our extended team!

Hi

We are Tete & Kim – the founders of WONDA. When we met 7 years ago, we quickly realized that we share many similarities and very common values and ideas related to the approach of life. Our strongest connection has probably always been our passion for the outdoors, nature, the ocean and our compassion for the environment. Maybe as well our addiction for popcorn and watermelon, the fact that we love to sing along (although all our friends haven’t recognized our talent yet) and the fact that we are simply better together. This is true on a personal and a professional level, also because our skills are luckily very complementary.

WONDA founders Kim Flint and Teresa Brouwers in Portugal

► Meet the team

► Kim is our social soul.

She can be very convincing, especially when she fights for our mission. At the same time, she is the personified empathy and knows when it’s important to listen, to just watch, to speak and when to act. A sense of direction and strategy is part of her DNA and change is definitely nothing she backs off from.

► Tete is our creative tinkerer.

She is usually bubbling over with ideas and gets things done. Creation in all its steps and beauty is her passion. She makes sure that everything runs smoothly and always finds a way to get things sorted – from sourcing to distribution. Everything self-made. And thanks to her co-founder’s expectation and trust that she can do it.

► Lina is our faithful defender.

Data and processes are her daily business. She finds possible pitfalls and promising potentials in all operational processes and makes us better and more efficient. She has a focus project with the goal to reintegrate all waste products from our supply chain back into a circular economy model. We are sure that she will be a great entrepreneur herself one day!
